Intel and Nokia team up
The next step in mobile computing
Publish date: 24 June 2009 by Thomas MckinnonThe world’s biggest chip-maker, Intel, and the world’s largest mobile handset manufacturer, Nokia, released a joint statement yesterday announcing a deal to collaborate on the development of new convergence products.
While both companies were schtum on what any of these future products may be, they did mention that they would focus on overcoming barriers created by the convergence of the internet and mobility. Essentially the companies will work together to develop an open-source mobile platform for Intel’s Atom processor and Nokia’s Maemo OS.
"This Intel and Nokia collaboration unites and focuses many of the brightest computing and communications minds in the world, and will ultimately deliver open and standards-based technologies, which history shows drive rapid innovation, adoption and consumer choice," said Anand Chandrasekher, Intel Corporation senior vice president and general manager, Ultra Mobility Group.
